A History of Excellence
In 1983, Bittersweet began as “Bittersweet Café,” a little gourmet-sandwich business in Old Town Alexandria. Its immediate popularity, by serving high quality foods, prompted its growth into different food concepts serving the Northern Virginia area. It expanded to become Bittersweet Café & Bakery.
In 2007 the company diversified by adding a catering division with a 4000 sq. ft. kitchen and sales office space to become Bittersweet Catering-Café-Bakery. To concentrate on our ever-increasing catering business, we closed our Café location in 2016 to become the Bittersweet Catering that we are today. To keep up with increasing business demands, Bittersweet underwent another major expansion in 2022. We hired more staff and added vehicles, storage and office space.
Today we continue to provide creative, freshly cooked food along with warm, caring and professional service. We take great satisfaction and pride in having assisted generations of Washingtonians with their corporate gatherings and special events.

Orn’s Journey oF Success
Orn Jitwiwat is among the select few proprietors in Northern Virginia who has a SWaM (Single, Woman and Minority Business) certification. She surrounds herself with a skilled leadership team focused on growing the company while maintaining the Bittersweet business model to provide clients with innovative and committed service.
Orn is a native of Bangkok, Thailand, and holds an economics degree. She began working as an assistant on Bittersweet's sandwich line in 2004. As the company grew, she was elevated to part-time bookkeeping and then corporate comptroller due to her educational background and innate business acumen. In 2007, the company expanded, adding a 4000 square foot sales office and production kitchen. In 2009, Orn received a promotion to General Manager, and in 2018 purchased the company.
